In a box in the basement… Clifford Fears
Clifford Fears (1936 – 1988) choreographed Dance For A Minotaur, performed at the Detroit Institute of Arts on September 9, 1980. Clifford Fears performed with the Katherine Dunham dancers before returning to Detroit to form The Clifford Fears Dance Company.
This is a partial recording of a re-staging of the performance for videotaping shortly after the DIA premiere. Mark Manos directed the videotaping; Raken Leaves created the sets and costumes; the Pastiche Wind Quintet performed the music; I wrote the libretto for Dance For A Minotaur. I will try to find an old program so I can properly credit the dancers and musicians.
Lady Godiva In Detroit
I thought I’d died and gone to Heaven when I stumbled across this clip in an online archive. It’s the trifecta: nuns, Lady Godiva, and Detroit. All in one 9 second clip.
You see… Detroit really is the Paris of the Midwest:
1967: Detroit looks into the future and doesn’t like what it sees. (I’m talking electric cars here, not the riots.)
